L’écu aux branches d’olivier à l’effigie du roi Louis XV a été frappé de 1726 à 1741.

French coin entitled “Ecu aux branches d’olivier” (which English translation could be “French shield framed by olive branches”) has been struck under the reigns of kings Louis XV and Louis XVI. Pieces with the effigy of the first one have been struck from 1726 to 1741.

D’abord fixé à 5 livres tournois par l’édit de janvier 1726 (porté au registre le 4 février de la même année), son cours légal fut augmenté à 6 livres tournois par arrêt du 26 mai 1726 (maintenu jusqu’à la fin du règne de Louis XVI, petit-fils et successeur de Louis XV).

Its first legal tender, 5 livres tournois (decree of January 1726, registration of 4th February 1726), was increased to 6 livres tournois by decision of 26th May 1726 (until the end of the reign of Louis XVI, grandson and successor of Louis XV).
