Hercule avec à sa droite l’allégorie de la Liberté, tenant contre son flanc droit une pique surmontée du bonnet phrygien, et à sa gauche celle de l’Egalité, tenant de la main gauche un niveau, tous trois se tenant debout (d’après le dessin de Dupré) ; signature Dupré sous la ligne d’exergue, entre deux points. Légende : LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ (rameau d’olivier sous le L du premier mot)

Hercules standing between the allegorical representations of Liberty and Equality, respectively left and right, both draped ; the hero wearing the skin of the Nemean Lion, the Liberty holding a pike surmounted by a Phrygian cap, the Equality holding a mason square ; signature of the artist engraver Augustin Dupré under the ground line, between two dots ; motto LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ (in English LIBERTY EQUALITY FRATERNITY) in the upper part ; a laurel twig under the first word

Dans une couronne formée d’une branche de laurier à gauche et d’une branche de chêne à droite, la valeur faciale 5 FRANCS sur deux lignes et le millésime 1996 ; différents monétaires (à gauche la corne d’abondance de la Régie des Monnaies, à droite l’abeille, choisie par le graveur général Pierre Rodier) en exergue ; une étoile à cinq branches à leur droite. Légende : RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE

In a wreath, made of an olive branch on the left and an oak one on the right, and tied with a ribbon at its base, the face value 5 FRANCS written on two lines and the year of issue 1996 ; privy marks (on the left, the cornucopia of the “Régie des Monnaies”, and on the right, the bee, chosen by the General engraver Pierre Rodier) at the bottom, with a five-pointed star.
